Volunteer Stories
Having spent two weeks at the Divine Onkar Mission Orphanage in Jharkhand, I have been fortunate enough to experience first hand the importance of the charity’s work, and consequently, the value of each and every donation to the children there. New School
Donations are being used towards equipping the newly constructed ‘high school building’. This is an extremely necessary addition to the Divine Onkar Mission campus as it allows students to continue with higher education. Recycling
The students at D.O.M are actively recycling in order to minimize waste products and raise funds to support projects undertaken by the school. Students replace their empty shampoo sachets, broken flip-flops, completed notebooks etc in exchange for new. The items handed in are then recycled/sold, even down to the wrappers
Palu Farm
The charity has developed some land to grow a range of organic products, free from pesticides and herbicides. Not only does this provide full time employment for a local family, it also provides housing on site for them. This area will also house a school for the physically disabled in
Pen Pal Initiative
Students of all ages were able to send and receive pen pal letters to students both in the U.K and USA. Many thanks to Cranford Community School and Vidyalaya Sunday School.
Disabled Youth Cricket Team
Congratulations to the local cricket team for players with disabilities in Ramgarh. As avid supporters we welcomed players before the match and gave out fleece clothing then returned the players to the school to share their victory trophy with the students.
Ministers Visit
The Jharkhand State Education Minister along with the press visited the Divine Onkar Mission campus in January 2010 in order to look at the current projects under construction.
